There are a finite amount of ways malicious software can infect your machine, one of which is via browsing to and downloading from compromised or otherwise malicious websites. Our browser is the primary interface we have with the web and as such it is important to understand how a browser works and what we can do to help keep our browsing more secure and private.
This course is intended to teach more about the number one tool we use to access the web: Our browser. We will discuss browser choices, how to configure a browser for our security and privacy needs, and how to spot malicious websites. In addition to discussing these topics, lab/demos will be provided to ensure a firm grasp of the concepts being discussed.
Covering both foundational and slightly advanced concepts, participants will explore how browsers serve as critical points of exposure and learn tools to mitigate risks such as cookies, VPNs, and malware. The course is ideal for beginners eager to safeguard their online presence, with interactive demos that make the learning process both informative and engaging.
Terri Wagner is former founder of Mentor Source, Inc., a Colorado-based business leadership and project management coaching, mentoring, consulting, and training company. She is an experienced instructional designer, coauthor, and technical editor who produced several business leadership, project management, and business analysis textbooks and educational programs. Terri has also taught domestically and internationally to state agencies, governmental entities, corporate clients, and at the graduate level in the university system.
