About This Course

The primary sector is fundamentally important to New Zealand’s wellbeing – it is New Zealand’s largest export earner. It is also a significant taxpayer.

This three-part webinar series will be targeted at rural sector tax issues and at some wider SME issues that will affect the primary sector and the amount of tax it pays.

The course will assist participants in understanding the current tax issues facing the sector.

The course focuses on using case studies to highlight the issues that arise in primary sector businesses and working through the options available to mitigate the taxation consequences arising.

The major matters discussed will be:

  • Intra-family transactions – from livestock to land, including the five- and ten-year bright line tests
  • Topical issues including Budget and the Tax Bill.

More briefly we will discuss, among other things, cyclone issues and forestry issues. We will also review the March Tax Amendment Act.

The presenter, Jim Gordon, is an experienced primary sector tax adviser who has drawn from real life situations as inspiration for the case studies making up the TripleCast. He will work through the case studies which highlight the issues and practical solutions to those issues.

Suited to:

This course is suited to accountants and other professionals advising the primary sector. Content will primarily be targeted at experienced advisors who have an understanding, but not necessarily a deep knowledge of the topic areas covered.
